Yet another example of a Cumbria WordPress client that has been left in the lurch by their local developer!  We’ve posted about this before.

Well we’ve just had another new client come to us following another local WordPress developer deciding they were no longer in the business of putting WordPress websites together for local businesses.

On this occasion the client through an act of goodwill had paid upfront for their site. The developer, after 18 months of bluff and bluster finally had the courage to declare they’ve set up a bar and are no longer ‘doing websites’. There was no offer of repaying the money.

In this latest example of dreadful service the developer has charged a high fee and basically imported a site based on templates from a theme. They added a couple of photographs and a minimal amount of text. Then went silent and disappeared.

When we were approached to see if we could pick this up there were a number of significant issues to deal with urgently.

Happily, we’ve been able to get the issues sorted and the site is now live and indexed in Google.

Some watch-outs for you out there.

• Think carefully about paying upfront for your site!
• Your developer can establish a ‘Staging’ version of your site when it is being developed. You can have full access to this and view progress as it is being developed.
• Take some ownership of your site early on and let your developer know they are working for you.
• Think ahead, when your site is nearing completion, you want this to start ranking in Google as quickly as possible. Have lots of content ready and insist this incorporated into the development of the site.

To be honest when we started this business we were probably naive about the Cumbria WordPress developer community.
